The LoverThe Lover by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Got this as part of Audible Plus library, & enjoyed it as a dark fairy tale a little different than most of what I've read/listened to by this author. It's very short -- under 2 hours -- so I don't think I'd recommend it as a full credit purchase. However, if you like Silvia Moreno-Garcia's work, it's probably well worth your reading/listening time.

The WehrwolfThe Wehrwolf by Alma Katsu

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

A WW II historical horror take on the werewolf (European folktale version) , playing effectively off the real "Werewolf" resistance units organized around the time of Germany's surrender. The plot addresses evil in the human heart at least as much as it details the horrors of one small village "protected" by a shapeshifting bully and his growing pack. Characterization is strong and the plot, although not entirely remarkable, kept the pages clicking for me.

The ending is bleaker than the reader might be prepared for, though not unexpected. This tale is driven by plot rather than by writing style -- a quick read. It's currently a Kindle Unlimited selection, and well worth the time spent for those who enjoy WW II Europe taken into the dark.
