Sometimes strange things happen in the Lovecraftian universe.

Today I received a hardback copy of Black Wings of Cthulhu 4 (containing my Cassie Barrett investigation "Night of the Piper").

In Czech.

I don't know anyone who reads Czech. I'm not even sure I could find Czechoslovakia on a map.

But it's still sort of cool to think of an Eastern European Lovecraftian reading my very Wyoming Mythos tale.

Banished Words List, 2011

Happy 2011, wordhounds!

Lake Superior State University's 36th annual List of Words Banished from the Queen's English for Mis-use, Over-use and General Uselessness was posted on New Year's Eve.  This select list of words we might all do better without was compiled from over 1,000 nominations sent to its website, lssu.edu/banished.

The complete list -- plus pithy comments -- is now available here.  I was unnerved to see how many of them haunted my vocabulary in 2010 . . . though I'm afraid the verb "Google" is probably here to stay.   It's been around since Buffy the Vampire Slayer, if not before.
