Dubuque haiku . . . who knew?

Well, I for one didn't know -- and I went to college in Iowa, though not in Dubuque. However, this week's Montage from The Haiku Foundation will remedy that ignorance. Billed as "The Haiku Capital of the Midwest," it celebrates the unexpected vibrancy of haiku in Dubuque with 21 haiku from three of the most notable names in American haiku, all with links to Loras College in that fair city.
Poets include Raymond Roseliep, Bill Pauly (his student), and Francine Banwarth (his student). All three offer some remarkably lovely haiku in this selection, and I was unable to pick a favorite.
I realize that haiku in Iowa might be a tough sell on a Friday afternoon (or evening, depending upon your time zone), but taking a few minutes with these poems is a great way to breathe deeply at the end of a long week.
