I have to confess that I don't have the math background to appreciate much of this-- but one Benjamin K. Tippett at the University of New Brunswick has produced a scientific paper entitled “Possible Bubbles of Spacetime Curvature in the South Pacific.”

Yep, he's attempting to explain the physics of "The Call of Cthulhu."
