I recently received my contributor's copy of  Studies In the Fantastic No. 1, a new scholarly / literary journal from University of Tampa Press.  Edited by noted independent Lovecraft scholar S.T. Joshi, it focuses on "weird  literature" from Poe's time forward, and includes both critical articles and actual weird fiction and poetry.

The poetry includes three "vintage" verses by Edward Thomas, Edwin Markham, and Madison Cawein -- all poets from between the mid-19th and early 20th century -- and three new poems.  The modern poets include Fred Philips, Leigh Blackmore, and Yours Truly (with a sonnet exploring the weirder side of Chaco Canyon).

There are also three new fiction pieces, two by Jonathan Thomas and one by Joseph S. Pulver, Sr.  Joe edited my first Lovecraftian poetry collection, The Worms Remember.  It's always great to share a table of contents with him and his lyrical, very edgy work.

I was also happy to see a critical article on the weird verse of Victor Daley from Phillip A. Ellis, an Australian Lovecraft scholar and fellow poet.
